BACKGROUND INFO ON THE HOUSE AND MABALINGWE:
Beechwood Lodge is a 4-bedroomed thatch cottage in the malaria-free Mabalingwe Nature Reserve – about 2 hours north of Johannesburg. It is owned by a CC, and we are one of the 8 members. Mabalingwe Nature Reserve was originally just a timeshare resort, but over the years it has been buying up adjacent farms, and under strict environmental-impact studies a few zones were approved for sectional title houses. Beechwood is on one of the 16 plots at ‘Boekenhoutplaat’ (one of the newly acquired sections of Mabalingwe), of which about 8 have been built on to date. The original timeshare still exists, along with a campsite, restaurant, pool, tennis courts etc. This is all about a half hour drive away but within the same reserve. As a sectional-title owner we are allowed to drive through the whole reserve on our game-viewing vehicle, whereas timeshare people are restricted to the original timeshare area. Walking/cycling/running is permitted but as it is a nature reserve, this is at your own risk.
The house is fully-equipped in terms of microwave, dishwasher etc, and there are 4-double en-suite bedrooms (with linen & bath/swimming towels).
